• Well, I got out of the fish-keeping hobby somewhere around 2008. During a recent pet store visit to buy food for my four-legged friends, I thought I'd take a look at aquariums. I was surprised to see nano tanks were popular. What a smart move on the part of the manufacturers. A great way to reach a new demographic for those with limited space or who don't wish to maintain a larger setup.

So, I bit the bullet and acquired a Fluval Edge 6 Gallon. It's a stylish and decent kit on its own, depending on what you want to do with it. I immediately swapped the AquaClear filter with a Fluval 106 external canister filter. The 106 is a bit of overkill, however, the water flow is adjustable so if and when I move to a larger tank I can still use it. Also added a pre filter sponge to the intake valve as it was sucking my fish in!

Other additions: heater (from a previous tank), Fluval Sea CP1 circulation pump, Aqueon 7" White LED bubble wand, and Aqueon Quiet Flow air pump 10. The pumps aren't run simultaneously. They are rotated. The circulation pump is great for after feeding, as it helps direct uneaten food in the direction of the filter's intake valve. Also, the tetras seem to like it.

The setup has now been running 5 weeks.

Livestock: 7 Neon Tetras, 1 Corydoras Adolfoi , 1 Mystery Snail (who hitched a ride with live plants I bought), along with a a few other hitchhiker critters. They look like like tiny, tiny crayfish, but I doubt that is what they are. They are slowly growing. Hopefully they are not harmful in any way.

Live Plants: Marimo Moss Balls, Amazon Sword, Hygrophila polysperma "Rosanervig". There are also plastic plants thrown into the mix.

Rocks: a large piece of petrified wood that I brought back from the Arizona desert. I decided to use white substrate as I thought it would contrast nicely.
